A downtown wine bar received an OK for its liquor license application and York College was cleared to move ahead with a dormitory addition.
York, PA -Development projects dominated the York City Council agenda during what was the council's first meeting since it broke for summer recess in June.
Up for consideration was a request for approval of an economic development liquor license from Vintage Companies, LLC, a York College development plan for an addition to an existing dorm that would boost capacity by more than 200 students and an expansion project by the York Academy Regional Charter School.
All three projects were granted approval. Here's a look at each in more detail:
---?Toni and Tony Calderone, owners of Vintage Companies, LLC, are one step closer to opening a proposed wine bar on Continental Square after a vote of confidence from council. The Calderones will now seek final approval of their economic development liquor license application, which Toni Calderone said is a cheaper alternative to traditional liquor licenses, from the state liquor board.
Council expressed concerns about the ability of the wine bar to meet the sale ratio of 70 percent food to 30 percent alcohol required by the license, but Toni Calderone said the sale of lunchtime fare should help the bar to meet that requirement.
---?A 66,000-square-foot addition to York College's Northside Commons dormitory at West Jackson Street is part of the second phase of development of that property, according to Ken Martin, dean of campus operations.
Martin said the
addition would allow the college to improve its housing stock, making it more competitive in the educational market. The extra beds will also allow the college space to house students while it performs significant renovations to some of its older dorms.---?Concerns over traffic and safety caused the council to issue a conditional approval to York Academy Regional Charter School for its proposed expansion project.
The project involves the demolition of an existing building, followed by the construction of a new multi-level structure meant to accommodate an influx of students after the school expands to kindergarten through eighth grades, David Koratich, project manager, said.
The school is now required address concerns over children crossing the street in the line of moving traffic and to clear a traffic safety plan with the city Traffic Safety Committee before it can proceed with demolition and building permit applications.
