More than 100 animal lovers spent their Sunday afternoon at Orta Restaurant, tasting Italian cuisine and sipping fine wine to raise money for the Scituate Animal Shelter.
?I think it?s a great way to get not just the volunteers together but people from the board,? said Erin Freeman of Hanson, who was enjoying a glass of white wine at the bar. ?We?re all having a great time.?
The event featured hors d?oeuvres, a candy and dessert selection and live and silent auctions.
Paul Kopulos, Scituate Animal Shelter executive director, said he expected to raise $12,000 ? about the same amount raised during last year?s fundraiser.
Kaijsa Kurstin, Orta Restaurant public relations, said the restaurant donated food, wine and space from 1 to 4 p.m. for the event, which was the shelter?s largest fundraiser of the year.
Carol Mersereau, who was at the fundraiser with her husband, said the food was ?excellent.? She had pasta, chicken parmesan and salad.
