A juvenile in University Park tested positive for West Nile fever but has not been hospitalized, a city spokesman said Thursday.?

The juvenile lives in the 75225 Zip code, a pocket sandwiched between U.S. 75 and the Dallas North Tollway with Lovers Lane as its southern boundary and Walnut Hill as its northern. The diagnosis comes just a day after the county confirmed its second human case. This is the third.

City spokesman Steve Mace said University Park had the Zip code sprayed for mosquitoes overnight, per advice from Dallas County Health and Human Services officials. ?

The Mayo Clinic categorizes West Nile fever as a ?mild infection? that triggers head and body aches, fatigue, back pain and occasionally a skin rash, swollen lymph glands and eye pain. This case is not the more serious neuroinvasive form of the virus, which infects fewer than 1 percent of victims and can cause death.

Mace said the city has been ?systematically? ground spraying for mosquitoes since April 1.?

?This ongoing effort includes all streets, alleys and parks. The effort also involves ground spraying all interior streets on the SMU campus,? he wrote in a release.

The city has also inspected ?dozens? of properties. The county?s health department also reminds residents to wear long sleeves and pants when outdoors, apply a bug spray with the chemical DEET and drain any standing water on their property.
