May's fight ended in the first round, Todashev was the winner.
"I do remember him not having anyone with him, he was real quiet. He wore a plain white shirt was staring at the ground the whole time," May recalled. "Now looking back, it's an eerie thing, a little too quiet."
May says unlike most victors, Todashev didn't celebrate afterwards.
"Kept to himself. Didn't really interact with anyone else," James Bennett said.
Bennett is a promoter in Central Florida. He worked with Todashev several times. He couldn't believe the FBI is linking him to supposed attackers.
"He was such a quiet guy. I was just shocked really. I watched the bombings and everything so closely, so whenever I saw the name, I saw the photo, I was like, ?oh my God. I know this kid,' " Bennett said.
Todashev's friends have denied his connection to the bombing itself. As for May, he was hoping for a re-match. It was fight he'll remember for a while, not only for the outcome -- but also the opponent.
