Any Pandora Hearts roleplayers?

Hey there, my name is Riley and I'm looking for some Pandora Hearts fans to roleplay with.

On average I can spit out 1-2 paragraphs a response but it also depends on what you give me to respond to. 3-4 paragraphs? I'll aim for that. 1-2 lines? Don't expect very much in return.

I have seen the anime (though that was years ago so I'm a bit forgetful as to details of what exactly happened) and I am up to date on the manga. I would prefer that partners are also caught up in the manga but if you are not/only have seen the anime then we can work with that!

I would like to roleplay Elliot. (I can also play as other characters if wanted). I do not mind what canon(s) you use and/or if you would like to bring in OC(s).

I also don't have any ideas for a plot. Have an idea or want to brainstorm? I'm all for that!

And by the way, I do enjoy talking to my partners ooc during the roleplay and I love getting critique on how my writing is and/or if the character I'm playing gets slightly ooc. I love to improve and definitely would not get offended if you wanted to point anything out!

So I guess post here or message me if you're interested.
I usually take my roleplays to e-mail or skype but wherever you want to roleplay is most likely fine with me.

Senate approves Baer to head Justice Department's antitrust team

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Senate on Sunday approved prominent antitrust attorney William Baer to head the Justice Department's Antitrust Division 10 months after he was tapped by President Barack Obama.

The Senate voted 64-26 to approve Baer's nomination, which ran into problems with some Republicans because of secret information in an FBI background report.

Baer, an antitrust and white collar criminal defense attorney with the law firm Arnold & Porter LLP, has worked in the past for the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

"Bill is a highly-skilled and well-respected antitrust lawyer who understands the importance of promoting competition in order for consumers to reap the benefits of lower prices and better quality products and services," Attorney General Eric Holder said in a statement welcoming the Senate vote.

The Justice Department's Antitrust Division, along with the FTC, reviews mergers to ensure they comply with antitrust law and prosecutes price-fixing and other antitrust violations.

Baer first joined FTC as a young attorney just out of law school and returned later to head its antitrust office.

At his confirmation hearing in July, Baer urged careful monitoring of powerful companies willing to flex their muscles to push aside rivals.

Obama nominated Baer in February to fill the post vacated by Christine Varney in mid-2011. James Wayland most recently served as acting head of the Antitrust Division, but left in November.

The Senate Judiciary Committee approved the nomination in September on a 12-5 vote, with the panel's top Republican, Mike Lee of Utah, joining the Democratic majority in support.

But Senator Charles Grassley, an Iowa Republican, said during that meeting he opposed Baer's nomination for reasons that he could not give in an open session.

Grassley and 25 other Republicans voted against Baer on Sunday while 14 Republicans voted for him.

Cheaper Tomatoes, Strawberries Pose Challenge for Florida

Published: Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 12:01 a.m.
Last Modified: Sunday, December 30, 2012 at 3:55 a.m.

In Florida, however, the opponent is not China and other low-wage Asian nations but the rising tide of cheaper tomato and strawberry imports from Mexico, which have undercut U.S. retail and farm prices.

"They (Mexican growers) produce for the U.S. markets," said John VanSickle, an agricultural economist at the University of Florida in Gainesville who specializes in international trade issues, including tomatoes and strawberries. "The premium product goes to the U.S., and the rest stays in Mexico. If they don't have a U.S. market, they don't have a business."

Mexican strawberry imports showed the steepest rise in the last five years, jumping 142 percent from 2008 to 2011, according to the most recent statistics from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. In the first three quarters of this year, they soared 50 percent compared to the same period in 2011.

Mexican imports will likely rise less steeply in the fourth quarter because farmers in both countries faced many of the same unfavorable growing conditions, said Ted Campbell, executive director of the Florida Strawberry Growers Association in Dover, the industry's trade group.

But that doesn't mean the Mexican market threat has subsided, he said.

"They're not going away. They're going to continue to grow," Campbell said. "You can't ignore what's going on."

Mexican tomato imports have risen significantly but less sharply in the past five years, up 43.7 percent from 2008 through 2011 and another 5.6 percent in the first three 2012 quarters compared with 2011, USDA figures show.

Those numbers reflect Mexican imports of round tomatoes grown in open fields and in "hothouses," or covered areas such as a greenhouse. Those varieties most directly compete with Florida round tomatoes, the dominant variety grown here.

Mexican hothouse tomatoes, which account for about 75 percent of total imports, pose the bigger threat, the federal data shows. They've risen 74 percent from 2008 through 2011.

"In the last five to six years, Mexico has converted from a field culture to a hothouse culture," VanSickle said.

That trend will continue, he added. Among the factors fueling the transition are better prices and lower production costs, including pesticides, which appeals to U.S. consumers concerned about chemical residues on produce.

The smaller percentage growth in imports simply reflects the fact that Mexican tomatoes have been competing in the U.S. market for decades longer.

ALLEGATIONS OF DUMPING

Even at the time of the 1994 North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), Mexican tomatoes had a roughly 40 percent share of the U.S. market, said Reggie Brown, chief executive of the Maitland-based Florida Tomato Exchange, the industry trade group.

Now, its share has grown to about 50 percent currently, and continues to climb.

Florida currently has a 40 percent annual share of the U.S. market for fresh, field-grown, round tomatoes, he said, and it supplies virtually all of the domestic market in that category between December and May.

Mexican competition has sent Florida's tomato acreage down by more than 26 percent in the past decade, from 43,500 acres in the 2001-02 season to 32,000 in 2010-11, according to USDA. Brown estimated the current total at about 30,000 acres.

"It's almost entirely due to Mexican imports," said Tony DiMare, vice president of DiMare Fresh Inc., a national produce company and one of the top three U.S. tomato growers and shippers. DiMare works at the company's Apollo Beach packinghouse.

Florida tomato growers and their counterparts in other states accuse their Mexican counterparts of illegally dumping tomatoes in the U.S., or selling them at prices below the cost of production. The strategy attempts to eliminate competitors to eventually gain control of an entire market.

U.S. growers made the same charge in 1996, two years after NAFTA's enactment.

The U.S. Commerce Department, fearful the complaint would destroy the trade pact, negotiated an agreement with Mexican producer known in the industry as the "suspension agreement" because it suspended action on the dumping complaint, DiMare said.

The suspension agreement was supposed to eliminate surges of imported Mexican tomatoes to maintain stable market prices, he said.

"In my opinion, the Commerce Department failed miserably," in enforcing the agreement, said DiMare, citing the recent Mexican import growth.

U.S. growers have asked the Commerce Department to drop both the suspension agreement, scheduled to expire in January, and the 1996 dumping action. A decision on both is expected by February, Brown said.

Rulings in favor of U.S. tomato growers would allow them to proceed with a new dumping complaint, widely expected to happen.

BATTLING STRAWBERRIES

Mexican imports had their biggest effect on the U.S. tomato and strawberry markets during the 2011-12 season, when a flood of both commodities sent prices plummeting, Campbell and DiMare said.

Farmers in Florida and Mexico lost money last season because of depressed prices, they said.

"We had such depressed prices last year, we couldn't recover our picking, packing and transportation costs," DiMare said. "They (Mexican growers) inundated their own market. They absolutely destroyed the U.S. market."

Wholesale strawberry prices a year ago fell to $7 per flat, or the break-even point, by Christmas, Campbell and growers reported earlier. They recovered briefly in January but sank again the following month.

Because of lower volumes, wholesale strawberry prices returned to a normal levels this season, USDA figures show. Prices averaged about $26 per flat in early December, when Florida is the exclusive domestic strawberry producer, and were about $17.50 on Thursday.

Florida strawberry growers generally harvest until March, when California production ramps up, sending wholesale price below the break-even point.

The significance of the Mexican competition is that its growers compete in the same market windows traditionally dominated by Florida tomato and strawberry growers. Leaders in both commodities view Mexico as a continuing threat.

"If we have seasons like we had last year, where import volumes kept prices so low and made it impossible to sell at a profit, this industry can't maintain those types of losses," Brown said.

NEW GROWING METHODS

The state's tomato and strawberry growers can compete with Mexico, VanSickle said, but both will have to transition to newer technologies.

In both cases, that would include following their Mexican competitors by turning to "covered agriculture," he said. That would include growing in traditional greenhouses or other closed environments, such as large plastic tunnels put up over an entire crop row.

VanSickle, who consults for Florida tomato growers, has delivered that message to industry leaders without much effect, he said.

DiMare and Brown agreed the Florida climate makes covered agricultural production unworkable and the costs "prohibitive," particularly in the current profit environment.

The price to build a one-acre greenhouse, including temperature controls, would run about $1 million, Brown said.

An acre of plastic tunnels over strawberries would cost $30,000, Campbell said, and all could be blown away with a single hurricane or tropical storm.

VanSickle acknowledged a transition would come with big up-front costs, but he maintained growers, particularly tomato growers, could recover by supplying a better product that would fetch a higher market price.

"In this era, consumers are willing to pay more for a better-tasting tomato," VanSickle said.

"If they want to compete, they've got to change the way they're doing business."

Iraqi protesters wounded after warning shots fired

BAGHDAD (AP) ? An official in Iraq's western Anbar province says two people have been wounded after bodyguards for a senior Sunni politician began shooting to disperse angry anti-government protesters.

Anbar provincial council member Talib Hamadi al-Dulaimi told The Associated Press the shooting happened near Ramadi Sunday during a visit by Iraq's Deputy Prime Minister Saleh al-Mutlaq. Sunni protesters have been rallying in the area for more than a week to protest over perceived second-class treatment by the Shiite-led government.

Al-Dulaimi says a dispute broke out and shots were fired after demonstrators insisted the Sunni official show support for their protest by submitting his resignation from the government.

Gunfire continued to ring out and protesters were seen throwing rocks at the entourage as it left the area.

Al-Mutlaq's office had no immediate comment.

Lawyer for Newtown survivor seeks to file $100 million lawsuit

By Mary Ellen Godin, Reuters

MERIDEN, Connecticut -- A $100 million claim on behalf of a 6-year-old survivor is the first legal action to come out of the Connecticut school shooting that left 20 children and eight adults dead two weeks ago.?

The unidentified client, referred to as Jill Doe, heard "cursing, screaming, and shooting" over the school intercom when the gunman, 20-year-old Adam Lanza, opened fire, according to the claim filed by New Haven-based attorney Irv Pinsky.

"As a consequence, the ... child has sustained emotional and psychological trauma and injury, the nature and extent of which are yet to be determined," the claim said.

Pinsky said he filed a claim on Thursday with state Claims Commissioner J. Paul Vance Jr., whose office must give permission before a lawsuit can be filed against the state.

"We all know its going to happen again," Pinsky said on Friday. "Society has to take action."

Twenty children and six adults were shot dead on Dec. 14 at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. The children were all 6 and 7 years old.

Pinsky's claim said that the state Board of Education, Department of Education and Education Commissioner had failed to take appropriate steps to protect children from "foreseeable harm."

It said they had failed to provide a "safe school setting" or design "an effective student safety emergency response plan and protocol."

Pinsky said he was approached by the child's parents within a week of the shooting.

The shooting, which also left the gunman dead, has prompted extensive debate about gun control and the suggestion by the National Rifle Association that schools be patrolled by armed guards. Police have said the gunman killed his mother at their home in Newtown before going to the school.?

Space spider dies in D.C. after surviving 55 days in space

Space spider dies in D.C.: Neffi survived 55 days aboard the International Space Station. But the famous spider died after four days in the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History, in Washington, D.C.

Nefertiti, a spider that traveled 42 million miles through space before returning to Earth in October, died after being sent to the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C.

The experiment was designed to determine if a spider dependent on gravity for catching its meals would be able to adapt and eat in micro gravity.

According to the Boulder Daily Camera , the spider was able to hunt down fruit flies in her sealed space environment on the International Space Station. The spider managed to survive despite a miscalculation on the amount of food needed for the mission.

The Johnson jumping spider (species Phidippus johnsoni). arrived at the Smithsonian's Insect Zoo this past Thursday. By, Monday it had expired.

The Boulder Daily Camera reported:

"Neffi, of a species that typically enjoys a lifespan of about one year, was 10 months old. Monday's passing of the so-called "spidernaut," according to the Smithsonian, was due to natural causes. However, the Smithsonian conceded that no necropsy was performed on the deceased arachnid.

The experiment that made Neffi famous was conceived as part of the NASA-sponsored YouTube Space Lab contest in which two student-proposed studies were selected from thousands submitted worldwide by video. Amr Mohamed, 18, of Egypt, suggested examining whether a spider normally dependent on gravity for catching its meals would be able to adapt, and eat, in a micro-gravity environment."

According to NASA, Mohamed's project was designed to look at whether jumping spiders, like the zebra and red-backed species, can adapt their hunting abilities to microgravity. Jumping spiders do not build webs for catching their food. These particular spiders hunt using their excellent vision to track and stalk prey, jumping and striking with a lethal bite -- similar to cats hunting mice.
?

?"I have always been fascinated by science because with a handful of equations, I can explain the world around me," said Mohamed in his Meet the Winner YouTube video. "The idea of sending an experiment to space is the most exciting thing that I have ever heard in my life."

Eventually, Mohamed's experiment was designed by Colorado University. It demonstrated that a spider was able to hunt down fruit flies in her sealed space environment on the International Space Station just fine -- until her food supply ran out, explained Stefanie Countryman, the projects manager for K-12 Educational Projects at CU's BioServe Space Technologies.

Government Dependents Outnumber Those With Private Sector Jobs In 11 U.S. States

DeathSpiral

America is rapidly becoming a nation of takers.? An increasing number of Americans expect the government to take care of them from the cradle to the grave, and they expect the government to dig into the pockets of others in order to pay for it all.? This philosophy can be very seductive, but what happens when the number of takers eventually outnumbers the number of producers?? In?11 different U.S. states, the number of government dependents exceeds the number of private sector workers.? This list of states includes some of the biggest states in the country: California, New York, Illinois, Ohio, Maine, Kentucky, South Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama, New Mexico and Hawaii.? It is interesting to note that seven of those states were won by Barack Obama on election night.? InCalifornia, there are 139 ?takers? for every 100 private sector workers.? That is crazy!? The American people have become absolutely addicted to government money, and it gets worse with each passing year.? If you can believe it, entitlements accounted for?62 percent?of all federal spending in fiscal year 2012.? It would be one thing if we could afford all of this spending, but unfortunately we simply cannot.? We are?drowning in debt, and we are stealing more than a hundred million more dollars from future generations with each passing hour.? No bank robber in history can match that kind of theft.

Snow piles up in New England

On Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning parts of southern New England and the Northeast received up to a foot of snow. Some lost power, while others were stranded trying to travel.

Up to a foot of snow fell in parts of southern New England with the latest winter?storm?to move through the Northeast, national weather forecasters said Sunday.

The?storm?began Saturday afternoon and ended by Sunday morning, with some power outages but no reports of critical injuries or major property damage. Dry weather was expected for days in southern New England, although strong winds may chill the bones.

Meteorologist Frank Nocera of the National Weather Service in Taunton, Mass., said southern New England appeared to be the hardest hit.

Six to 12 inches of snow fell in Rhode Island, eastern Connecticut and eastern Massachusetts, including Foxborough where the New England Patriots play. The exception was at Boston and the Cape Cod area where rain was mixed with snow. There two to four inches fell. Many residents lost power after wet snow piled up on power lines.

The?storm?spread over the Northeast and parts of Ohio on Saturday, just days after the regions were hit by another?storm?that moved in from the nation's midsection.

New York City and Philadelphia saw a mix of rain and snow, and drivers throughout the regions were warned to be cautious. About 20 vehicles piled up in a storm-related chain-reaction crash on Interstate 93 in New Hampton, N.H., police said, and five people were injured.

Officials lowered the speed limit on much of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, about 300 miles from the Ohio state line to east-central Pennsylvania, from 65 mph to 45 mph. Flights at Philadelphia's airport, mostly arrivals, were delayed about an hour, spokeswoman Stacy Jackson said.

In Albany, N.Y., a regional jet skidded into a snow bank at the airport and became stuck, temporarily stranding passengers en route to Chicago. The 66 passengers and four crew members aboard the GoJet Airlines flight, operating as United Express, were put on a bus and sent back to the airport. There were no injuries, and the incident didn't cause any other flight delays, airport authority spokesman Doug Myers said.

In Ohio, Dayton, Columbus and Cincinnati saw about 2 to 5 inches of snow by Saturday afternoon, the National Weather Service said.
